MICROTENSIOMETERS WITH FLEXIBLE TUBES - SMS 2000S & STM 2000S

Microtensiometers are used in every place in soil where the volume is too small to use a standard porous ceramic cup.
The first benefit of these devices is their flexibility. You can place the porous ceramic exactly where you want in the soil. Another advantage is that the water volume (dead water) into the tensiometer tube is very low; the response time of the tensiometer is then faster and the temperature influence lower. These Microtensiometers can be equiped with any SDEC porous ceramic, sizes 2,2mm to 13mm. Under SMS 2000S reference, the customer can choose exactly the model wanted. These equipments are generaly made for different experimentations in laboratory (but also in the field). Every system can be manufactured according to the customer’s need. The model showed above are only some examples that we can manufacture. All models, all forms and all lengths can be made.

The porous ceramics can be glued on flexible tubings with different diameters (ex : 3mm for ref. SDEC 220 or 8 mm for ref. SDEC 230), with different tube lengths.

The upper tube can be equiped with different types of bungs and accepts different types of sensors : For the use of SMS 2500S tensimeter or electronic sensor as SKM 850 (silicone stopper), for the use of mercury manometer system as STM 2150 (rubber bung), for the use of electronic sensor (SKT 850).

STANDARD MICROTENSIOMETER 30cm & Ø 13mm - SMS 2030S0

The tensiometer is equipped with a silicone bung, the tensiometric tube length is 30 cm and diameter 10 mm. The outer diameter of the ceramic cup is 13mm (ref. SDEC 1300).

STANDARD MICROTENSIOMETER 30cm & Ø 6mm - SMS 2030S1

The tensiometer is equipped with a silicone bung, the tensiometric tube length is 30 cm and diameter 10 mm. The outer diameter of the porous ceramic cup is 6mm (ref. SDEC 230).

STANDARD MICROTENSIOMETER 30cm & Ø 2,2mm - SMS 2030S2

The tensiometer is equipped with a silicone bung, the tensiometric tube length is 30 cm and diameter about 3mm. The outer diameter of the ceramic cup is 2,2mm (ref. SDEC 220).

STANDARD MICROTENSIOMETER 30cm & Ø 12mm - SMS 2030S3

The tensiometer is equipped with a silicone bung, the tensiometric tube length is 30 cm and diameter 10 mm. The outer diameter of the ceramic cup is 12mm (ref. SDEC 850).

The standard set

The standard microtensiometers (presented below) are delivered with a silicone stopper. However, since this product is designed for specific applications, you can order the exact model necessary for your experiment

You also need

. A pressure sensor to measure the soil water potential : either hand held (ref. SMS 2500S) orfixed on the tube & electronic (ref. SKT 850), or the visual mercurymanometer (ref. STM 2150)

Do the tensiometer tubes need to be prepared ?

As all tensiometers, these tubes have a porous ceramic cup glued on the bottom. Before placing them into the soil, the ceramic must be saturated with gasless water. This can be done with a vacuum syringe, type STM 21750.
